Report: Phillies Are Fine With Josh Hamilton’s Salary Demands

The Philadelphia Phillies are trying to retool their bats and outfield depth, to go along with strong pitching staff they have.

The Phillies want back in the playoffs, and a quality outfield acquisition or two will do fine.

Reports state the Phils have their eyes on Michael bourn, B.J.Upton, and the grand prize, Texas outfielder Josh Hamilton.

Crossing Broad via Buster Olney is reporting that the Phillies are fine with Hamilton’s salary demands, and the only thing stopping a deal is the years.

Buster Olney: The Phillies are OK with the high annual salary that Josh Hamilton might command, but they have concerns about the length of the deal.

Hamilton reportedly wants seven years, $175 million.

Hamilton is 31 with issues of past drug use and disappearing acts.

The Phillies can use those factors, and what the Yankees are going through now with A-Rod as plenty of motivation to not give Hamilton such a long deal.

I agree, give Hamilton what he wants per year, just don’t give him the years.
