Report: Raptors Interested in Trading for Rudy Gay

Rudy Gay Toronto Raptors

You would think that Rudy Gay was Katherine Webb if you looked at the demand that he’s been generating from NBA teams on the trade market.  We recently told you about a trade rumor linking Rudy Gay to the Phoenix Suns, but now you can add the Toronto Raptors to the list of teams who have reportedly expressed an interest in acquiring the 6-8 swingman from the Grizzlies.

RealGM.com cites a report from Marc Stein of ESPN.com, who says that Toronto’s offer to Memphis would likely be a package that includes Jose Calderon, Ed Davis, and future draft picks.  Toronto is said to have attempted to acquire Gay prior to the NBA Draft in June as well.

I think Memphis is making the right move by putting out feelers for Rudy Gay a month before the trade deadline.  Even though the team wants to move Gay for financial reasons, they still don’t want to be forced into a bad deal a month from now.  Knowing what teams would offer for Gay gives the Grizzlies a little leverage.

As far as Toronto’s offer is concerned, Jose Calderon would be an interesting piece for Memphis, but I don’t think Toronto’s deal would be enough to entice the Grizzlies to move Rudy Gay unless they included at least one unprotected first-round draft pick.
