San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has apparently put the team’s Super Bowl loss behind him and has made preparing for the 2013 NFL season his main priority. Whether it is throwing or working out, Kaepernick is all in according to head coach Jim Harbaugh.
But Harbaugh does have some concerns about Kaepernick, Specifically, how much weight lifting his young signal caller has engaged in. He elaborated on his interesting concern to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.
“If you’re just talking about weightlifting and upper-body strength, yes, I think there is that fear, admitted Harbaugh.
“It’s something we’ve talked about. ‘I don’t want you getting too jacked-up, Colin.’ I want some speed, quickness.”
With the 49ers seemingly committed to running the read option, perhaps it is good for Kaepernick to put on more muscle as he will assuredly be taking some hits over the course of a 16 game season
But his speed and quickness are what make Kaepernick one of the most explosive and exciting players in the league. Perhaps he can find a happy medium that will leave his coach satisfied.
