Former New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora has waited a long time to be a free agent.   He waited so long and is so excited, that he’s just saying anything out his mouth.

Umenyiora was on NFL Network a few hours ago, and was asked about his future and what his plans were.  Umenyiora made it clear his next team would be playoff caliber, maybe a player or two away from winning a championship.

Then Osi made the proclamation of the off-season, when he stated that he would win the NFL Defensive Player Of The Year award in 2013.

“It wouldn’t have to be a playoff team,” Umenyiora said. “It could be anybody pretty much anybody who would need me to help them win, and anybody who I think is going to put me in a situation to win Defensive Player of the Year, which is what I’m going to do this year.”

Umenyiora was asked to repeat himself, and he calmly declined, probably understanding what he said.  Umenyiora also let it be known that dollars would factor in to where he signed next season.

“My phone is on. I’m not turning my phone off. I’m open to pretty much every situation right now,” Umenyiora said. “Wherever puts me in the best situation to really go out there and showcase my skills and help them win, I think that’s where I want to go.”
