The St. Louis Rams have a young core of skill players around quarterback Sam Bradford, and come Tuesday, that core will only get younger.
The St. Louis Dispatch is reporting that the Rams are set to let wide receivers Danny Amendola and Brandon Gibson walk in free agency.
Sources close to the situation say the Rams have a commitment to young wideouts Chris Givens, Brian Quick and Austin Pettis, and didn’t want to pay Gibson #2 wide receiver money when he’d only be the fourth wide receiver on the depth chart at best.
Gibson is receiving some interest on the open market, and should be able to parlay a weak free agent wide receiver class into a #2 wideout role somewhere around the league.
As for Amendola, the oft injured slot receiver is looking for a pay-day similar to the $6 million a year that the Dolphins just gave Brian Hartline, but the Rams have no interest in paying that to a receiver who’s missed 20 games over the past two seasons.
