University of South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier has never been known to keep quiet when he has something on his mind.
So when it just so happened that South Carolina and the University of Southern California both happened to have their pro days on the same day, it appears ESPN decided there were bigger stories in southern California. Something that clearly didn’t sit well with the old ball coach.
“I noticed both USCs had their pro timing day today,” Spurrier told The State. “One of them finished No. 7 in the country last year, the other was not in the Top 25, yet ESPN decided to go out to the one in California which did not finish in the Top 25 and televise their pro timing day live. It’s interesting that (ESPN doesn’t) come around here on signing day, they don’t come around here on pro timing day, and yet they want us to play all these Thursday night games for them, which we do.
“Maybe we need to consider playing on that new network, what is it? Fox Sports Live?”
Spurrier was referring to rival sports network Fox Sports 1, that is set to debut in the upcoming months.
I can understand Spurrier wanting his draft prospects to receive some shine, but with quarterback Matt Barkley throwing at USC the bigger story was obviously there. It just appears Spurrier took it a little personal.
