According to Yahoo Sports, The Today Show will air an interview with disgraced former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky, on Monday.
Sandusky, was sentenced to serve 30- to 60-year prison sentence after he was found guilty of 45 counts of child sex abuse. This disturbing case brought a once prestigous university and college football legend Joe Paterno, to their knees after it was revealed that they were involved in the plot to cover up Sandusky’s abominable behavior.
“He’ll describe in his own words what he says happened on the Penn State campus,” Matt Lauer said of the interview.
Sandusky, 69, is expected to tell his side of the entire story, and will also speak of both Paterno and Mike McQueary, who initially aired concerns about Sandusky’s actions.
The interview is actually a collection of phone conversations, letters and face-to-face discussions between Sandusky and filmmaker John Ziegler. Ziegler is in the midst of a project entitled “Framing Paterno,” devoted to the way that the media distorted and misrepresented Paterno’s role in the Sandusky scandal. There is no on-camera interview because recording devices are not permitted in state prison, but phone interviews may be recorded.
What Sandusky did to his victims was beyond reprehensible and disgusting and for that he will die in prison. Does he deserve a platform to voice his reasoning for his despictable acts? I don’t think the parents of the victims will think so, but there are people like myself who want to know what can drive an individual to a place where he finds it acceptable to hurt innocent kids the way he did.
