After his first donation pledge went terribly awry, Dodgers star Matt Kemp has decided to increase his donation to $250,000.
Now that the dust has settled from the controversy that hovered around his first donation pledge of giving $1,000 for every home run hit until All Star Break, Kemp has tackled the situation the right way.
Kemp issued this statement:
“Dear Families of OKC,
On Monday, out of concern and emotion I committed $1,000.00 for every home run I hit until the All-Star Break. It was a quick and small gesture in advance of what I knew would be my greater contribution through your rebuilding process. I am keeping my pledge and in addition, donating $250,000.00. May God bless you through this and the many generous donations coming to your aid.” –Matt Kemp #PrayforOklahoma”
The increase also comes a day after Kevin Durant gave $1 million towards relief efforts. Whether or not Kemp felt heightened pressure to do more as a result is not what’s important, what is though is the money that will go help the families in need.
Those stepping out to openly criticize Kemp for not ‘doing enough’ have been put to bed. Let’s applaud Kemp for turning a situation he could’ve just ignored and using it to do more.
