The war of words between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Robert Guerrero peaked this week. Rubin Guerrero, Robert’s father was the latest person to throw in a jab so to speak.
Ruben Guerrero, Robert’s father, was given the mic at the May Day press conference today and he let loose. It took about 5 seconds for him to begin yelling at Mayweather Jr.
Here’s what Ruben had to say to Floyd:
“We’re going to beat up that woman beater. Must have learned that from his dad!”
“The one that beat up his wife, man. His wife—in front of his kids.”
Ruben continued his rant for another minute or so before Oscar De La Hoya took the mic and spared the crowd from an ever-going rant.
Here’s the very entertaining video of Mr. Guerrero at the podium.

The trash talk truly picked up yesterday, when both fighters were interviewed by members of the media. Floyd told media yesterday that Guerrero uses his wife’s health struggles to gain sympathy.
Floyd went on to elaborate on his statements:
“I think trying to gain fans by having a sympathy story every week, I don’t think that’s a good thing, but I’m glad that his wife was able to beat the leukemia. I don’t feel nobody should go through a situation like that, but we all go through certain things. Our mothers, our fathers, our loved ones go through certain things. I just feel like, just to gain fans you are using your wife’s story, you are using a sympathy story.”
“I don’t like that every week they keep selling the same story and selling the same story. It’s time to talk about something different.”
In response to Floyd’s comments Guerrero had this to say:
“It makes me laugh. To gather sympathy? I don’t need sympathy. I come to fight. We’re fighters. Sympathy doesn’t win fights. He is just worried about himself, how his image is looking. So when he says stuff like that… you know, at the end of the day what gets you through is talent – not sympathy. It’s laughable, it makes you laugh. It just shows you where his head is at.”
No one expected that to be the end of the verbal jabs between the two fighters. Add to that today’s statements by Rubin Guerrero is doing exactly what promoters love, generating a buzz.
A twitter follower of mine had amazing idea; put Ruben Guerrero on an island with Floyd Sr. and Roger Mayweather for a month. Just that simple, an idea that would surely shatter cable TV ratings.
