The Baltimore Ravens are now searching for leadership after the retirement of the great Ray Lewis, and Ed Reed taking his services to Houston.
Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti didn’t have to look far to find his teams new leader though, and after signing quarterback Joe Flacco to a $100 million contract, Bisciotti let Flacco know that the role is now.
“You are the leader now, like it or not,” Bisciotti said, according to the Ravens‘ official site.
“Not many guys do what you did in five years. Not many did it your way,” Bisciotti said, still addressing Flacco. “Not many like the way you do it. But I said at the end-of-the-year press conference after last year’s (AFC Championship Game) defeat, that I think the fans of Baltimore will be rewarded by your low-key presence, and it will stand the test of time. Indeed it did, and we all hope it continues to do that.”
By no means does Flacco have to lead like Rev Ray always did, but leading by example and offering needed words and encouragement when needed should be enough for Flacco.
