Sometimes, you have to remember to listen to your own advice. Initially when I first reported about Siohvaughn Funches having a meltdown on the streets of Chicago, I thought the same thing everyone else did.
“This woman is crazy….”
But, I remembered three things that have served me well over the years.
1- Don’t see the names see the situation.
2- Listen to different perspectives.
3- Remember, you don’t know who these athletes are behind closed doors.
Even if you take away the names, you would still would probably come to the conclusion that Siohvaughn iscrazy, especially when you found out that Wade pays her $25k a month and gave her a lump sum of $1 million.
But, there are three steps, not just one. I listen to other perspectives, mostly from women. I am a man, I have a very happy, drama free home life and my daughter is with me all the time, so I have no clue what it is like for women who have someone leave them, get with someone else and have their kids taken away.
Listening to women, money can’t cure her hurt. Especially when you add to the fact that Siohvaughn isn’t like a regular Basketball Wife. She and her family literally took in Wade when he was teenager because his parents were on drugs, she tutor him when he was in college and basically was his rock since they were kids. So, I understand why she is hurt, but the methods she is using to get her point across haven’t been working effectively for years.
The last point, is one that is always important. What you see in front of the cameras 95% of the time from athletes is a front, just a made up persona. Most aren’t qualified to say if an athlete is a good or bad guy. Outward appearances show Wade as a decent enough guy. A little bit arrogant at times, but someone who gives back to the community and never been in any trouble with the law.
A long time ago someone told me, you can gain knowledge even from an idiot, if you are able to eliminate the white noise. The point was even in the craziest rants there might be some truth or insightful information in it, if you don’t just simply dismiss it.
The question begs even if Siohvaughn is coming across as a hurt, bitter, crazy Ex-Wife is there some truth in what she is saying? Sometimes the fact you know things others won’t accept as truth can drive you crazy.
I have no answers to these questions, my job has always been to open on your mind to the possibilities and let you come to your own conclusions.
If you think she is crazy that’s fine, if you think D Wade has skeletons in the closet that drove her crazy, that is fine too.
Eventually, the truth will come out.
