Colin Kaepernick: Mental Part Of My Game Is ‘Underestimated’

Colin Kaepernick took the NFL by storm last season after taking over for Alex Smith, and doesn’t appear to be easing up anytime sooner.

Kaepernick brings the dynamic of speed, strength, a strong-arm, and excitement to the quarterback position.  Kaepernick told the Sporting News that his most important dynamic, “his mental approach to the game, is underestimated.”

“I think the biggest part of my game that’s underestimated is the mental part of it,” the 49ers’ third-year QB told GQ. “Probably because it’s invisible. You can’t see the hours I put in. It is funny to me that because I can run, because I’m athletic, people tend to see that as my only asset. And that’s fine. I hope they continue to see it that way (and underestimate me).”

Kaepernick stopped short of saying the mental part of his game is highly underestimated because of the color of his skin.

“Look, I won’t say that view is ‘racist.’ I will say that it’s stereotypical. I’ve just heard it so many times before.”
