Now that Andrew Wiggins is college basketball’s latest sensation, there was no doubt that someone might not take too kindly to all of the praises the Kansas G was receiving. CBS Sports reports that the one naysayer is none other than Oklahoma State senior G Marcus Smart. Smart is sophomore and could definitely be dubbed as the nation’s best returning player. However, all talk is about Wiggins and his projected impact on the game.
Here is what Smart had to say when asked about Wiggins.
“They are saying he is the best college player there is and he has not even played a game yet. Of course that hypes me up. It is all talk. He still has to put his shorts on one leg at a time like I do. It is all potential. I am not saying he can’t do it. But he has not done it yet….I wouldn’t say he is overrated. I would just say there is a lot of pressure on him right now. He is under a microscope from the world that is bigger than anybody would think, bigger than he knows. Whatever he does will be magnified times a million, just because of the hype. Whatever he says, does, however he acts.”
With both Wiggins and Smart playing in the Big 12 conference, it will be interesting to see their teams match up. Unfortunately, Wiggins stands 6’8” and Smart at 6’4”, so there won’t be too many opportunities to see the two guards match up against each other.
