Ed Reed Blames Wade Phillips for Being Released

NFL: New York Jets-Practice

When the Houston Texans signed Ed Reed to a three-year, $15 million deal during the off season, most people thought it was a bad idea.  After making just 16 tackles over the span of eight games those people proved to be correct and Reed was released by the Texans after two unimpressive months. Fortunately for the eleven-year veteran, the New York Jets saw value in him and picked him up two days later. On Wednesday CBS Sports is reporting that Reed spoke with the media about the circumstances that led to his release.

“I don’t even know how to describe it,” he said of his short stint in Houston (via the Baltimore Sun‘s Aaron Wilson). “It was some interesting stuff I experienced with a different organization.”

And while Reed conceded he didn’t have problems with most of the Texans coaching staff, he did say that, in hindsight, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips is “probably the reason I’m not there,” adding: “That defense is not a good fit for a lot of people, not just me. The truth is the truth. …

“You got to look at the play-calling and put your players in position to make plays,” he continued.

When asked what Reed and Phillips talked about when he was released, Ed Reed said.

“He came in and basically just made sure I was leaving.”

Seems like there may still be some animosity between Reed and Phillips. I think Ed Reed should take a look in the mirror because the reality is that he’s not the superstar he once was. Plus you can’t call out the entire coaching staff after a loss and not expect repercussions. Especially when your play has been piss poor.
