No don’t do it Reggie, don’t make a promise you can’t keep.
Bush lost a fumble against the Steelers last Sunday and was subsequently not seen in the ballgame again after that play. Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said that wasn’t the reason why he wound up on the bench for much of the second half of the 37-27 loss.
Bush now is calling himself a muddler, and according ESPN.com, “promised to not fumble again.”
“Just not thinking enough. Not protecting the ball. Not being aware enough of my surroundings, protecting the ball,” Bush said. “Actually, the last game, when I fumbled, I was protecting it as I was going down, I just didn’t squeeze it tight enough. That just comes with me mentally, constantly reminding myself, all week throughout practice, of making sure I’m high and tight — whether I’m going through the hole or whether it’s after practice [and] I’m doing a couple extra drills. Just little things like that.
“Those are the things that will help me to make sure that doesn’t happen again. And it won’t happen again.”
Bush has three fumbles this season — two of them lost. He has never had more than three lost fumbles or more than eight fumbles total in a season, both of which came in the 2007 season.
So when asked to clarify whether he was actually making a guarantee, he responded affirmatively.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” Bush said. “Yes.
