Ty Lawson seems to have made a huge fan out of his new head coach.
The Nuggets haven’t started an official All Star campaign for Lawson, but his coach definitely approves of the message. Brian Shaw was asked if he thought his starting point guard deserved to be voted in to this years game.
According to the Denver Post, Shaw gave an emphatic yes.
“Definitely,” Shaw said Friday. “You take his numbers and you line them up against any point guard in the league and he’s right up there at the top with any of them. And his team is winning.”
Lawson is averaging career highs in points (19.3) and assists (8.2), and is tied for a career high in rebounds (3.7) for a Nuggets team that enters its game against Boston Friday night with an 11-7 record.
“He’s had an off-game here or there, but you can almost pencil him in for 20 points and eight assists on any given night,” Shaw said. “So he’s emerging, and I think that definitely not only should he be in consideration, but I think that he should be one of the leading candidates to be on the All-Star team for the West.”
Lawson unfortunately plays the premier position in all of the Western Conference right now.
Regardless of what his numbers are, they will have to compare to the likes of Tony Parker, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard and Ricky Rubio just to name a few.
