Tar Heels’ leading scorer from last year PJ Hairston, has been in limbo all season as the NCAA reviews possible violations that would affect his eligibility.
While Carolina faithful had hopes that Hairston’s return was imminent, Yahoo Sports is reporting that he may not suit up for North Carolina at all this season.
Yahoo Sports has learned. Star shooting guard P.J. Hairston, however, remains in limbo and is unlikely to play this season, a source close to the school’s basketball program told Yahoo Sports.
North Carolina hasn’t even applied for his reinstatement.
In better news for Roy Williams and his squad, they will get back the assistance of guard Leslie McDonald, who has also been suspended since the beginning of the season.
McDonald received the standard 30 percent of season suspension and must repay $1,783 in impermissible benefits to a charity of his choice. North Carolina applied for his reinstatement on Dec. 11.
With this news, I expect Hairston will enter next year’s NBA draft. This is unfortunate for a UNC team that could use his consistency and leadership. I assume there’s more to the story than PJ just using a rental car.
