After playing the role of a good soldier for the better part of a year, Roberto Luongo has finally got his wish.
According to Sportsnet, the Canadian goaltender has been traded to the place where he calls home in the offseason.
Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo has been traded back to the Florida Panthers, as first reported by TVA’s Renaud Lavoie.
Luongo and Steven Anthony head to Florida while goaltender Jacob Markstom and forward Shawn Matthias are headed to Vancouver.
Vancouver will also be picking up 15 percent of Luongo’s salary, according to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos.
Luongo and the Canucks have been trying to part ways for a while, but it’s tough trying to find someone willing to take on a 12-year $64 million contract that expires all the way after the 2021-22 season.
