Chris Broussard isn’t the only guy at ESPN who relies heavily on his sources. Every now and then, Stephen A. Smith gets in on the act, and tries to accurately report major or breakings news.
During Monday’s episode of ESPN’s First Take, Smith proclaimed via his sources that Carmelo Anthony is bolting New York City despite the addition of Phil Jackson as team President.
I was told this last week, I was told a few days ago, I had it reiterated to me by somebody I trust yet again this morning, that Carmelo Anthony is gone, he is leaving New York city. There are those like myself who still hold up the possibility that that may not be true (…) but for what I’m being told, he is gone. And he is gone because he’s at the mindset that in order to achieve any amount of success he would had to sacrifice not just this this year but next year as well, because of this current roster.
Anthony of course has always made his intentions known that he would indeed test free agency and allow teams to pursue him. Only time will tell, but it sounds like Anthony won’t be buying into the triangle offense.
Talk all you want about Melo walking away from $30 million, but he can make some of that up in the endorsement that could finally come along with him winning something.
