James Harden: Money Was The Reason I Left The Thunder (Video)

I can appreciate James Harden’s honesty about the situation.

The Houston Rockets shooting guard admitted he gets asked at least once a day, why he’s no longer a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In an interview with Hannah Storm of ESPN, Harden opened up about the scenario that ended with him being traded to the Rockets.   Harden said that Thunder GM Sam Presti told him he had one hour to consider the Thunder’s final offer of four years, $55 million.

Harden was told to take it, or be traded.

Harden told Storm he felt like he already sacrificed enough and wanted the max.   The star shooting guard says he said no and the Thunder traded him to the Rockets, who immediately gave him a five-year, $80 million extension.

“I felt like I already made a sacrifice coming off the bench and doing whatever it takes to help the team, and they weren’t willing to help me,” Harden said.

Harden told Storm that he thought the Young OKC nucleus of himself, Durant and Westbrook would be together for a long time.

“Yeah, I did,” Harden said. “I thought we were going to be together forever. Russell Westbrook. James Harden. Kevin Durant.”
