In a move that surprises no one, Oklahoma State sophomore guard Marcus Smart has officially declared for the 2014 NBA Draft.

In an interview with the Oklahoman, Smart made official what most people saw coming the moment he announced he was returning for his sophomore season last year.

“I’ve told my teammates and my coaching staff, this year was my last year here and I am declaring for the NBA Draft,” Smart said. “I have picked an agent, with the Wasserman Group, a great group of guys.”

“It’s weird, because I didn’t go to the NBA Draft last year, I chose to come back – which I do not regret at all. A lot of people say I made the wrong decision. But who are they to tell me what I should have done? It’s me, not them.” continued Smart. “I believe I made the right decision. I get to do what I love to do.”

For Smart, this is a no-brainer. After a tumultuous season in which his attitude and actions both on and off-court were under intense scrutiny, it was time for Marcus to leave Stillwater.

There will be questions surrounding him heading into the draft this year, and while he probably should have declared after his fantastic freshman season, Smart is still very much the player that likely would have gone in the top two in the 2013 NBA Draft.
