Report: Mike Woodson Doesn’t Want Phil Jackson to Fire Him in Person

This is odd, but it’s the Knicks, so it’s just right.

According to ESPN.com via Stephen A. Smith, Knicks head coach Mike Woodson has no intention of meeting with Phil Jackson until he knows if he still has a job.

Furthermore, reports say Woodson would prefer Jackson and the Knicks fire him via his agent or phone call.

On Wednesday, the coach said he’d like a resolution on whether he will return next season as soon as possible.

“I think it’s been enough said about my job all year with you guys,” he said. “Hopefully, soon I’ll know my destination in terms of where I’m going to be.”

Earlier Friday on “SportsCenter,” ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith said Woodson would prefer that Jackson reach out to his agent if he’s going to fire him rather than having a face-to-face meeting to inform him that he’s being let go.

Reports suggest that Woodson and Jackson were expected to talk on the phone Friday.  There’s no word on whether or not that conversation ever happened.

It was reported earlier that Steve Kerr was Jackson’s choice to replace Woodson, and all signs pointed to Kerr accepting the job if offered.
