After all of the controversy surrounding the Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP and their relationship with Clippers owner Donald Sterling, Leon Jenkins has announced his resignation as President of the chapter.
In a statement on the NAACP’s homepage, Jenkins stated:
“Please be advised that the legacy, history and reputation of the NAACP is more important to me than the presidency. In order to separate the Los Angeles NAACP and the NAACP from the negative exposure I have caused the NAACP, I respectfully resign my position as President of the Los Angeles NAACP.”
The NAACP is currently developing guidelines for their branches to help aid them in their award selection process. Hopefully this will ensure that no more racists are granted lifetime achievement awards.
