It was so hot I could fry an egg on the floor. Ok not really but it is June in Texas, no A/C is pretty much the worst thing that could happen at this time of year in San Antonio. It was much hotter than it looked on your TV screen. But despite the conditions and committing 23 turnovers, the Spurs were able to overcome a 7-point deficit in the 4th quarter, going on to win 110-95.
The malfunctioning air conditioning at the AT&T Center caused the temperature to get as high as 115 degrees. As a result, LeBron James suffered from cramps causing him to leave the game with 3:59 remaining and not return. The Spurs released a statement on the conditions at the AT&T Center blaming an electrical failure.
(SAN ANTONIO) June 5, 2014 – An electrical failure for the power that runs the AC system in the AT&T Center has occurred. We are continuing to work on resolving the problem. We apologize for any inconvenience.
The heat affected everybody differently. After the game Tim Duncan said this was one of the most uncomfortable games he’d ever played in while Tony Parker seemed completely unfazed. LeBron James denied his request to address the media and was reportedly in the training room getting an IV. Representatives of the Spurs said they expect the issue to be resolved by Game 2 on Sunday.
The Spurs deserve all of the credit for sucking it up and taking care of business on their home court. I was sweating bullets so I can only imagine how uncomfortable they were. Still, there is a lot of basketball left to be played so everybody needs to “chill” out. Pun intended.
Game 2 tips off on Sunday at 7 CST.
