Ronda Rousey was supposed to be in China promoting her latest movie, Expendables 3, but instead she spent most of the time talking about her next fight.
“I desperately want to fight on the Jon Jones-Cormier card,” Rousey said. “I want to be able to share that card with Jon just to be able to say I have.”
Ronda has been the co-main event for a few UFC cards already and a January match up on the Jones vs Cormier card would make one of the largest fight cards in UFC history. Ronda isn’t an egocentric athlete so not headlining an event doesn’t hurt her ego. It’s clear that Ronda already has an opponent in mind for the fight.
“There are very few women that have had one-punch knockout power. There are other girls that they overwhelm the other person. They get TKOs and stuff like that. But Gina (Carano) has one-punch knockout power, and that’s the kind of person that I have to be the most cautious of. That’s the style that’s the worst for me, and ever since the beginning, I’ve been positive that Gina is the worst style matchup for me.”
Ronda also lets the fans know why Gina will be a tough fight for her regardless of rust.
“The feeling of distance and timing and feeling and all that, that stuff doesn’t go away if you take time off,” Rousey said. “Those things are always with you. That’s your bicycle.”
“And I’m sure Gina is 100 percent serious about it. She is not going to start training once the fight is announced. She’s already been training for months and months and months. I think she’s already started quite a while ago, and she only has me in mind, and so I expect that she’s going to be extremely prepared and a very dangerous opponent despite what other people would like to speculate.”
The pressure is now on UFC President Dana White. He must sign Carano and set up this fight before it’s too late and Carano chooses a different path.
