The NBA season starts this week and while you’re cheering on your favorite team, there’s one player we will all get to celebrate during the Boston Celtics season opener and thats Isaiah Austin. The Boston Celtics announced Monday that they will honor Austin as a part of “Heroes Among Us”.
Isaiah Austin, a Baylor stand-out, career was cut short due to a diagnosis of Marfan Syndrome. Marfan Syndrome is a life threatening disorder of connective tissue, which affects the skin, skeletal system, cardiovascular system and eyes. Austin is also legally blind in one eye.
Austin left Baylor his sophomore year in pursue of his NBA career but was informed after his diagnosis, if he continued playing basketball he was in further danger of rupturing his heart. Despite a dream coming to a halt, the NBA and Commissioner Silver, drafted Austin and promised him a job upon his completion at Baylor.
He has also promised to bring awareness to Marfan Syndrome.
