UFC 184 just got a huge boost with the addition of Ronda Rousey vs Cat Zingano. UFC 184 is headlined by Chris Weidman vs Vitor Belfort but Chris has been oft-injured and adding Rousey to the card allows the UFC to have a back up plan in case the champ isn’t ready for the fight.
The UFC originally had Rousey vs Zingano as the co-main event for UFC 182: Jones vs Cormier in January. That card would’ve featured the 2 biggest names in the sport of MMA and possibly could’ve shattered PPV records, but alas we will never know.
The UFC didn’t provide an official reason for moving the Rousey fight but it must be assumed that they are weary of cancelling another major PPV in LA.
UFC 176 was scheduled for the Staples Center in August but an injury to Jose Aldo led to the event being canceled. Los Angeles is too large of a market for the UFC to continue to flame out on scheduled appearances. This provides them with some much needed insurance heading into UFC 184.
