Nobody likes to be demoted and former Syracuse offensive coordinator George McDonald made his feelings known about losing his OC title after a lackluster performance against Louisville.
“I felt like I was blindsided,” George McDonald said of his removal as Syracuse offensive coordinator over the weekend. “I wasn’t happy. If I had known I only had 18 games to be offensive coordinator I would have stayed at the University of Arkansas. I would have never came here. It is what it is. I don’t want to be a distraction. I’m here to help coach Lester any way that I can. I’m here to help us get back on track.”
McDonald added after the video that the demotion did change the dynamic between he and head coach Scott Shafer. He also added he does not want to be a distraction to the team going forward.
There is clearly some animosity here between McDonald and Shafer. Any time someone says they don’t want to be a distraction they usually end up being a distraction. Something like this can divide a coaching staff and a team if you let it linger so it will probably be best that McDonald finds another job elsewhere after the season.
