Clearly many people have not grasped the magnitude of what Ebola is or how it is really affecting the continent of Africa. Because of this ignorance, soccer coaches at Northampton Area High School in Pennsylvania have resigned. Players were allegedly chanting Ebola and other racial slurs at another player from West Africa who plays for Nazareth High School. The young man became distressed and was given a red card for charging at an opponent toward the end of the match.
The teen came to America with siblings about three years ago and is from a small town in Guinea, ground zero of the Ebola outbreak, Bachert said. Bachert’s family took in the teen two years ago, but he constantly worries about the health of his parents, who still live in their home village.
Distressed by the alleged Ebola remarks, the teen charged a Northampton player during the game’s waning minutes and was ejected, Bachert said. He cried at the kitchen table when he got home.
The school’s superintendent says that the Northampton players will face punishment if it is determined that they violated the student conduct code. The West Africa player was, of course, suspended for the red card and sat out the game after. Amazing how swift he was brought to justice for charging at his taunters.
