Report: Michigan Chose Brady Hoke Over Kevin Sumlin

sumlin-staying

That good ole hindsight is always 20/20. As it turns out, Michigan had also interviewed Kevin Sumlin back in 2011 for the football head coaching position. This comes from college football insiders Bruce Feldman and Stewart Mandel. On his morning podcast. Feldman said that AD Dave Brandon interviewed Sumlin when Rich Rodriguez was fired. This isn’t to say that Sumlin would’ve fared better in Ann Arbor than Hoke, but if you want to check the results in College Station, it might help you make an educated decision.

However, the problem in 2011 is that Sumlin had just finished a 5-7 2010 season at Houston, and Hoke was 9-4 at San Diego State. That coupled with the fact that Hoke is a “Michigan man” swayed the favor to Hoke. Well, that didn’t turn out to well.

You can hear Feldman’s comments at the 39:01 mark.
