The NBA sent out a memo to all 30 teams to let them know of a potential upcoming vote at October’s Board of Governors meeting to revise the current NBA draft lottery system.

Some of the important changes to note are that the lottery would now by selected for the top 6 draft picks instead of the current format where only the top 3 are selected. The 4 teams with the worst records will all have an equal 12% chance to win the first overall selection while not being able to fall any lower than 7th. The cote is expected to past with only one team who is blatantly in the middle of tanking/rebuilding expected to oppose, and that would be the Philadelphia 76ers. A lot of NBA teams have been very displeased with he way that the Sixers have conducted business the last 2 seasons. The Sixers have made no attempt whatsoever to remain competitive, as they have spent almost no dollars in free-agency and last season barely failed to reach the NBA’s salary cap floor. My guess is that enough NBA teams have been complaining about tanking even before the Sixers took tanking to another level and Adam Silver is proactively trying to make the system better.
I I’d expect this to pass easily if vote happens. Vote might reach 29-1, with only Philly against. Might be a few more “nos,” but not many

Hard to overstate degree of leaguewide displeasure with Sixers right now. Perhaps not entirely fair — they’re following rules — but big.
