Disney’s Big Hero 6 took control over the weekend box-office, managing to outgross even the likes of the Christopher Nolan sci-fi epic Interstellar staring Matthew McConaughey.
The animated film based on the Marvel comic about a young boy and his rotund robot sidekick took over the box office bringing in $$56.2 million domestically, while Interstellar brought in $50 million–both very good figures which helped pick up what was a slumping box office. Internationally Interstellar well surpassed the $100 million mark, with $132.5 million worldwide.
Gone Girl continues to cash out racing back up to number 3 at the box office, while last horror film Ouija was 4 and indie comedy starring Bill Murray, St Vincent took in $5.7 million.
This marks the best stand-alone weekend for Disney since 2012’s Wreck it Ralph, which took in $49 million.
