Chris Simms has enormous potential as a football analyst, but he’s going to catch a lot of heat for this opinion he offered on Tom Brady.
Simms, who now works as an NFL analyst for Bleacher Report, joined Peter King of The MMQB to discuss his list of top five quarterbacks in the NFL.
Simms excluded New England Patriot star Tom Brady, and tried to offer a sound opinion why.
I hate how everybody just says Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are the best two quarterbacks in football. They’re not. Are they gonna be 65 years old and we’ll all be saying, “Brady and Manning are still the best?” Tom Brady’s not in my top five. I mean, he’s still really good, but I like other guys better. I’d go Aaron Rodgers one, Andrew Luck two, Ben Roethlisberger three, Russell Wilson four and Peyton five.
Brady is still among the league leaders in every passing category – and currently owns a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 22 to three.
Simms’ argument is similar to the approach used in an ESPN article that ran with the idea that Kobe Bryant is only ranked high in NBA circles because of the respect he’s earned around the league.
The idea that Manning or Brady would still be considered the best at their positions at the age of 65 is prepostorous.
Rodgers has been off the charts, Luck and Roethlisberger as well. Russell Wilson has had a pretty good season, on the most talented and physically imposing team in the league.
You would have to assume that Simms put Wilson on the list simply because he’s fresh off a Super Bowl. The numbers aren’t even close, and Wilson might have the better overall weapons.
