Details are pretty scarce at the moment, so I wouldn’t rush to judgment on anyone until we have more details.
Here is what we know so far via SI.
The report says that Knoxville, Tenn., police are looking into reports of rape and sexual assault allegedly committed early Sunday morning at an off-campus house. Knoxville police did not publicly identify the suspects, only saying that they are both Tennessee students, but head football coach Butch Jones confirmed Monday that the suspects are football players.
Both incidents allegedly took place around 3 a.m. early Sunday. The two victims were 19-year-old females, one of whom was a Tennessee student. The other victim, a student from an out-of-state college, was visiting Knoxville. The Tennessee student victim told police she was raped by two male students, while the other victim said she was sexually assaulted.
The suspects are Vols linebacker A.J. Johnson, a senior, and defensive back, Michael Williams, a sophomore, a police source confirmed to The Tennessean.
A couple of things should be noted. Both of the players have been suspended while the investigation is ongoing and the out-of-town student declined to press charges.
