Looks like the rumors of Carmelo Anthony shutting it down for the rest of the season appear to be true. ESPN.com’s Marc Stein is reporting that the Knicks will make a decision Wednesday to shut down their all-star and face of the franchise in hopes of securing a top draft pick in the deep 2015 class. The Knicks basically got what they needed out of Melo for the season, in having him play just enough games to allow him to be voted in as an all-star starter and represent the hometown Knicks. The New York Knicks went from Eastern Conference contenders just 2 seasons ago to fast track NBA cellar dwellers, boasting the NBA’s worst record at 10-43. This may not be a bad thing for the Knicks, and hopefully an intelligent fanbase understands that in the NBA its is never good to be a middling team, you either want to be the best or the worst. The Knicks have put themselves in a situation where they will have all types of cap space to lure potential free-agents to Gotham City, so giving up on the lost cause that was this season, isn’t that harmful.
ESPN sources say that Knicks will officially rule Carmelo Anthony out for rest of the season later Wednesday
