Here we go again.
Last year, Batista won the Royal Rumble and was penciled into the Wrestlemania 30 main event, much to the disdain of fans everywhere. Fans loudly protested the result, and nearly revolted on the WWE until they finally forced the company’s hand and got Daniel Bryan into the main event in a triple threat match that the fan favorite would ultimately go on to win.
Fast forward 12 months, and wouldn’t you know it, the same thing is playing out all over again. After crowning Roman Reigns the next big thing and giving him a title shot in the main event at Wrestlemania 31, fans again have started to revolt against the WWE. And apparently, once again it’s working. Reports indicate that Vince McMahon has decided to give the people what they want, and inserted Daniel Bryan into the ‘Mania 31 main event according to CageSide Seats.
Now, Dave Meltzer over at The Wrestling Observer (subscription required, but recommended) is saying that McMahon has decided to pull the trigger on a change for March 29th show in Santa Clara, California.
But he’s not pulling Roman out. Instead, after processing the fan response and meeting with his team, Vince has reportedly decided to return to the Triple Threat well for the second straight year. So rather than Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE title and Daniel Bryan vs. either Sheamus or Dolph Ziggler, the WrestleMania 31 main event will be – again, according to Dave Meltzer –
Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan
Now that is a match fans can get behind. Bryan being inserted into the match doesn’t guarantee that he’ll go over and walk out as WWE Champion, but it definitely adds a ton of intrigue to the main event, and that’s all we can ask for
