Oklahoma City Thunder star guard Russell Westbrook is having a great season. He won the MVP of the NBA All-Star game and has the Thunder going into the second half of the season in the tight race to make the playoffs. Westbrook has been an elite player all season but seem to have his biggest games when teammate Kevin Durant is not on the floor. Westbrook stopped by the Dan Patrick Show and shares his thoughts about going else where and running his own team like ex-teammate James Harden.
“No, not at all, man. I love winning. Kevin’s one of the best players in the world, man, and I love my position I’m in now. I think over the past maybe four or five years only maybe two teams have won more games than us, San Antonio and probably Miami. So I don’t think it gets too much better than that. I mean, you can be on our own and win a few games and then go home in the summer. But I’d rather win games and have a chance to win a championship every year.”
Westbrook seems to be sold on his current situation with the Thunder, he loves playing with Durant despite the fact that it seems they have some tension on the court, mainly at the end of close games. When asked about the perceived tension between the two, Westbrook shared these thoughts.
“I’m not sure. But I know myself and Kevin always, always became closer and closer regardless of what stories or what was made up about us. And I think we’ve constantly became closer and closer like brothers and got through everything or whatever that was thrown our way whether if it was true or not true or made up.”
His ‘brother’ Kevin Durant is set to become a free agent in 2016 and it’s rumored that he could skip town to head back home, Washington D.C., like NBA star LeBron did last summer. It will be interesting to see what Westbrook’s future holds if Durant leaves.
