The Washington could potentially upgrade their roster — while putting a dagger in the plans of Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles.
ESPN’s John Clayton dropped a bombshell on the Freddie Coleman show on ESPN Radio. During a discussion about what it would take for the Eagles to land Mariota, Clayton warned that the Redskins wouldn’t allow Mariota to get past pick six.
“And honestly, don’t discount, he’s not going to fall to the Jets at six right now, the Redskins will take him at five,” said Clayton (via 247Sports). “At least Dan Snyder might not think there’s quarterback issues, Jay Gruden and everyone else in the front office thinks there’s quarterback issues.
“And if Marcus Mariota falls to five, it’s not a position where they’re desperate enough to trade up to get him, but if he falls to five, I’m telling you this right now, they’ll take him.”
John Clayton isn’t a guy that just throws reports at the wall hoping it sticks. Clayton is highly respected in the industry.
If it’s true, then it speaks volumes about Jay Gruden’s continued unhappiness with RG3.
