Ex-South Carolina Football Player Charged In Death of 4-year-Old

A former South Carolina football player has been charged with murder after the death of a 4-year-old boy in Georgia, according to AJC.com.

Steven Terrence Singleton, a 6-foot-3, 300-pound lineman who played for the Gamecocks in 2009 and 2010, was booked into the Gwinnett County jail on Wednesday afternoon and is being held without bond on charges of felony murder and first-degree cruelty to children, according to the website.

Singleton was a four-star prospect coming out of Buford High School in Buford, Ga., and signed with LSU out of high school. He redshirted as a true freshman with the Tigers in 2006 and then signed with Gamecocks in 2009 after two years at Georgia Military College.

Singleton did not get on the field in 2009 as he bounced between the offensive and defensive lines. He was a reserve offensive lineman in 2010.

Singleton’s arrest report stated that he was responsible for “inflicting fatal brain injuries” of Tye Hardin, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The child died Monday and was referenced several times as “little buddy” on Singleton’s Facebook page, according to AJC.com.
