All sports are made better through trash talk.
As a fan, it’s nice to be reminded every once in a while that the stars that entertain you are equally as passionate about their work as we are. When an athlete goes out of their way to trash talk an opponent or defend their own squad’s honor, we can’t help but get fired up about it because that’s the type of stuff that fan’s normally do.
While some leagues are supposed to penalize/fine if they hear trash talk during the game (the NFL), other’s have it embedded in their sport’s DNA (the NBA), or simply need it in order to gain attention for their sport (Boxing, UFC).
Talking trash as a marketing ploy has been used for decades, probably longer. But when TMZ recently caught up with the UFC’s Michael Bisping, a future fight couldn’t possibly have been his end-game when he decided to begin bashing Wanderlei Silva.
Silva, a former UFC fighter who has since been banned for life for refusing drug testing, is seen in Bisping’s eyes as merely a “moron” who he invites to “s*** his c***” in the video below.
Bisping’s unprovoked, vulgar response to simply hearing Silva’s name proves that there is some deep-seeded hatred between the men, most likely dating back to the days when Silva knocked Bisping out.
Trash talking is great for all sports, particularly the UFC. It’s just a shame we’ll never get to see these two fight each other again, unless it’s in some sort of Backyard Wrestling video.
