How often do you hear about the University of Houston landing blue talent on the DEFENSIVE side of the ball? Go ahead and think about that for awhile.
Newly hired head coach Tom Herman and his staff pulled off one heck of an upset today when they landed home grown, five star defensive tackle recruit Ed Oliver over LSU and others.
#ESPN300 5-star & No. 6-ranked Edward Oliver has committed to #Houston. Simply put, a HUGE commitment for #GoCoogs http://t.co/oj3dQuMLF4

How big is 5-star Edward Oliver to #Houston? 1st 5-star to commit to non "Power 5" school in #ESPN300 rankings. That covers 99 5-star's. Wow

It can’t be said enough how much landing a player of this caliber means to a program like Houston. Houston has predominately been a program that has had no problem putting up numbers on offense, but have never had a defense to match their offensive prowess.
Landing Oliver not only gives you a huge shot in the arm on the recruiting trail, it also gives you a defensive cornerstone to build around for the next few years. This could be a commitment that flips the switch for the Cougars and makes them a household name going forward.
