Los Angeles Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak is in full draft mode with considering what player they will take with the number 2 pick, However, he’s looking at more players than just phenom freshmen Jahlil Okafor and Karl Anthony Towns.
Mike Trudell of Lakers.com spoke to Kupchak and had this to say,
“Kupchak said anywhere from four to eight players could be in consideration for the No. 2 pick. Keeping options open and broad right now.
LAL want to be prepped to pick from 1 all the way to 60; could always make a trade or purchase a pick as they did for Clarkson last year.”
Now though Okafor and Towns are the consensus shoe-ins for the number 1 and 2 picks in this draft, bringing in players like D’Angelo Russell, Justice Winslow, and Emmanuel Mudiay would be worth serious looks. Not to mention all of them besides Mudiay who opted to play overseas over attending SMU, had stellar freshman campaigns.
With the Lakers in need of talent infusion, what Kupchak is planning is quite smart.
Though, I don’t see the Lakers passing on either Okafor or Towns, who’s to really know what Kupchak is thinking with that valuable number 2 pick.
