I’m sure someone in the 49ers organization pulled Eric Reid to the side, and explained to him that his comments made it seem like there’s an epidemic going on in San Francisco.
Reid on Tuesday, stated that he thought about retiring after suffering three concussions in his first two NFL seasons.
He later backtracked on those comments, stating that he was misquoted by Eric Branch, the San Francisco Chronicles writer who ran with the piece.

Just to be clear, I NEVER SAID, "I've given some thought to leaving the NFL." @Eric_Branch

“The media always finds a way to twist your words…they just want you to click on their article,” Reid wrote. “I don’t appreciate the way you twisted and took my words out of context in your article. I’ve always respected your job by answering your questions. Your article was not an accurate portrayal of my words. Just to be clear, I NEVER SAID, ‘I’ve given some thought to leaving the NFL.’”
For his part, The San Francisco Chronicle later changed the headline on its story from “Reid says he’s considered leaving the NFL” to “Reid, mulled giving up football.”
