New Orleans Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry was able to land the new coaching gig in part by showing Pelicans management how Anthony Davis was underutilized. Well, the new Pelicans coach has some high praise for his star player.

“We got the best player in the NBA, not named LeBron James,” Gentry said.
You would think a coach would not even add that second part. I mean, what would have been the harm in just calling Anthony Davis the best player in the NBA. Sure, everyone knows it would just be a coach hyping ‘his’ guy over everyone else’s, but it would be a strong statement that could push Davis next year. We saw how great Anthony Davis could be this year and calling him the second best player in the NBA is still a great compliment, especially when you’re bypassing guys like Steph Curry, James Harden and Kevin Durant in that list. I think Davis will take a huge leap next year into MVP territory but do you think he’s the second best player in the NBA?
