The Ohio State Buckeyes are in a very bizarre situation, especially for a team fresh off a National Championship victory.
Heading into the 2014 season, many had Braxton Miller pegged as a favorite to win the Heisman trophy, but things took a downward spiral after Miller suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder.
J.T Barrett was immediately thrown into the fire, but he exceeded all expectations, as he threw for 34 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions. However, Barrett’ stint was cut short, as he was sidelined with a right leg injury.
While Barrett was the Buckeyes quarterback for majority of the season, which helped put them in position to win the National Championship, he continues to be forgotten in the quarterback carousel.
I mean, it does make sense, however.
Braxton was the big man on campus and Cardale Jones dethroned Alabam and Marcus Mariota.
Nonetheless, if anyone were to be in Barrett’s corner, it would be his father, right?
“Of course I would love to see my kid start, but for me it always goes back to who was first,” Joe Barrett said. “If Braxton hadn’t gotten hurt, I would still be waiting for my baby to get the chance to play. I was thankful J.T. got that chance … and we were all blessed that he was ready to compete, but like I have told everybody, I don’t want to see my kid take a position because of the misfortune of someone else,” he said.
Tough love at it’s finest.
