One of the victims of the Charleston shootings Wednesday was the track and field coach at a local high school and the mother of a baseball player at Charleston Southern University.
A reverend at the church, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton was the girls track and field coach at Goose Creek High School in Goose Creek, S.C. and was employed as a speech therapist at the school as well.
Her son, Chris, is a rising star baseball player at Charleston Southern. Chris played at Goose Creek High School, located about 30 minutes outside of Charleston.

Charleston Southern released a statement on Thursday about the shooting and the loss of Coleman-Singleton.
“We are especially mourning the loss of Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, the mother of rising sophomore Chris Singleton,” said President Jairy C. Hunter Jr. “Chris is a member of our baseball team. The CSU family is praying for Chris and his family during this painful time. CSU coaches and campus ministers are assisting the Singleton family as they deal with this tragedy.”
