The NFLPA loves to get involved after it’s too late for a player. Right or wrong, Evan Mathis knew Chip Kelly wasn’t giving him a new deal, and he also knew that the threat of being cut was real.
According to Tim McManus of Birds 24/7, the NFLPA is reviewing the decision to cut Mathis, a two-time Pro Bowl guard.

Right now it’s just due diligence at this point. The 33-year-old Mathis was due to make over $6 million in each of the next two seasons.
He won’t get that on the open market, and probably should shelved the contract talks, and just played it out.
