Theres more than one way to accomplish mostly everything in life.
Knowing this, Russel Wilson’s agent – Mark Rodgers – just employed a rare maneuver while hoping to garner bigger bucks for his prize client.
Mark Rodgers, a baseball agent, sent a 16-page letter to the Seahawks explaining his position, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. These types of letters are common in baseball, but as Rapoport notes, football negotiations are never as formal, making this a unique approach.
Wilson has been famously underpaid through out the duration of his career, but that’s just what happens when you’re highly successful at a young age in this league. Blame it on your CBA, not the Seahawks.
After leading his team to two Super Bowls in his first three years in the league, Russel Wilson is obviously worth more than the measly 1.5 million dollars he’s being paid this season. His agent better get to work and get this man some checks with a couple more 0’s at the end – FAST – or risk losing his job.
Again, he’s a smart guy and knows all of this so he’s obviously pulling out all the stops, I’m sure.
My only suggestion to Mark Rodgers would be this: meet the men who run their front office in person, no matter how many times it may take; wine them and dine them if you have to. You’re not a soldier away at war or a little boy professing your love to your girlfriend, Mark. You’re just trying to get the most underpaid player in the NFL his due raise. It shouldn’t be that hard.
This 16 pages just wreaks of desperation to me and, likely, the entire organization.
The good news is that regardless you can still expect a raise for Mr. Wilson in the near future. His play speaks for itself.
