Ryne Sandberg has announced he is stepping down as manager of the Philadelphia Phillies according to an announcement from the club.

Sandberg walked away Friday with a 119-159 career record over three seasons in Philadelphia. During a press conference Friday afternoon, Sandberg explained the move.
“I did not want to be in the way.”
Sandberg was named the interim manager late in the 2013 season.
