It is very dangerous trying to sell your sneakers over social media. If you are going to do that, you have to vet the people you are dealing with very carefully.
You also want to meet in a public place with lot of witnesses. Don’t meet in parking lots, meet at restaurants like a McDonald’s during lunch hour rush.
As far as this teenager being tried as an adult, I know that there are people on both sides of this issue. What concerns me the most is a 15-year-old even having access to a weapon. There are way too many guns on our streets. Here are the details via First Coast News.
A 15-year-old Northside Jacksonville boy is being charged as an adult in a shooting over a pair of Michael Jordan sneakers.
A judge certified Antiono Maurice Boykin as an adult this week on charges of attempted murder and shooting deadly missiles, according to jail and arrest records. He is in jail on $1 million bail.
It started with a 19-year-old woman putting the shoes up for sale on Facebook and someone responded, according to the incident report. They agreed to meet Feb. 22 on East Seventh Street. When the woman drove up with two men that afternoon, three people were on bicycles awaiting her.
The woman gave the prospective buyer the white and baby-blue sneakers to look at (Air Jordans Legend Blues), he then told the woman “You just got bucked” and pointed a handgun at her and the two men. A second boy pulled up his shirt to reveal another gun in his pants.
The woman stepped on the gas pedal, and the prospective buyer fired at them hitting a taillight.
The police were able to easily track him down via the Facebook messages.
Be safe.
